Jason Fadness Memorial Site

Hi, I知 Jennifer Fadness and I知 the director of TogetherDeaf.com.  I started this Internet site to help the Deaf community stay connected.  In addition, there is an aggregated news section devoted to articles related to deaf issues, a state-by-state Deaf Events message board, general message board, Deaf Employment message board, and live chat room.
(Me and my brother Jason in July 2005 at the Grand Canyon)

I知 a college student majoring in American Sign Language.  My dream is to attend Gallaudet University in Washington, D. C.  After I graduate, I知 planning to get my degree in Deaf Education and work in the public school system with deaf students.  I can relate to the Deaf because when I was born, 8-hours after birth, I had a stroke.  The doctors told my parents if I survived, I would probably be blind, deaf, and non-ambulatory.  Fortunately, I proved them wrong.  But as a result of the stroke, I have mild Cerebral Palsy that left me with weakness on the left side of my body and some learning disabilities.  So like the Deaf, I understand how it feels to be labeled and treated differently by society in general. However, like most of you, I知 far more capable than most people give me credit for and able to do most everything like a "normal" person.

I can see and also hear. I have a passion for kids and think it is very special to be able to meet a variety of children and their families and to communicate with them through the use of American Sign Language.  In the past, I have volunteered at Mantua Elementary in the Washington, D.C. area where they have a program for children that are deaf and hard of hearing.  I worked with the pre-school age group.  I volunteered there for 3 years.  I loved working with the kids and it helped me keep up my skills in Sign Language.  I also communicated and worked with the Deaf Teachers who worked at the school.

(Me, my father Jeff, brother Jason, and sister Sarah)

I have been blessed with a family that loves and supports me.  It was my grandparents, Bud & Audrey Fadness, that gave me this idea, and my father, Jeff Fadness, that helped me create this Internet site.  This project is a labor of love that gives me an opportunity to share the blessings I have received with you.  It is a gift from me to my friends in the Deaf community throughout the USA and around the world.  So please, use and enjoy TogetherDeaf.com.  I look forward to receiving any questions, comments, or suggestions, you may have regarding this site.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Fadness
Director
